Cell Phones

Del Webb Middle School Cell Phone Policy

In accordance with CCSD Policy 5136, cell phones and other personal technology devices must be off and stored in their Farady pouch once students arrive on campus. Cell phone use in the quad, hallways, classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms, offices, and other common areas is not permitted. Cell phones may be accessed during lunch but must be off and stored in their Farady pouch before students are dismissed from the cafeteria. Cell phones should remain off and stored in their Farady pouch until students leave campus at the end of the school day.

If a student is seen using their phone outside of the approved times (including text messaging), or if the cell phone rings during class, the cell phone will be confiscated and kept in the Student Success Office for parent pick-up. Cell phones will not be returned directly to the students.

Students are not allowed to use the camera or video function on their cell phones at any time while on campus. Students found in violation are subject to disciplinary action, including a required parent conference and suspension.

Non-Locking, Signal-Blocking Pouch Policy

July 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you and your family well. I am writing to remind you and your child of the Clark County School District initiative we implemented at Del Webb during the 2024-2025 school year, aimed at creating a more focused and distraction-free learning environment for our students. Starting with the first day of school, we will require the use of signal-blocking cell phone pouches for all students during school hours.
As you are aware, the presence of cell phones in the classroom has become a significant source of distraction. Despite our best efforts to encourage responsible use, a more structured approach is necessary to ensure that our students can fully engage with their studies without the interruptions that cell phones can cause.
The signal-blocking pouches, which students will be required to place their phones in as they enter campus, are designed to block all incoming and outgoing signals. This means that while students’ phones will remain with them, they will not be allowed to access them until their designated lunch time and the end of the school day. This measure will help to minimize distractions and promote a more focused and attentive learning environment.
When students receive their Chromebooks for the year, they will be provided with a pouch. The student is responsible for storing their cell phone in the pouch each day and returning it in good condition at the end of the school year. Students will be issued fines equal to the replacement cost of the pouch ($20) if it is lost or destroyed.
Cell phones not stored in the pouch will be confiscated, and progressive discipline consequences will be assigned for repeated infractions.
We believe that this initiative will significantly enhance students' abilities to concentrate and learn effectively. We ask for your support and cooperation in reinforcing the importance of this policy with your children.
If you have any questions or concerns about this new policy, please do not hesitate to contact the Del Webb Middle School Student Success Office. We are committed to working together to go one step further to provide our students with the best educational experience.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Sincerely,
Heather Mounts
Del Webb Middle School Principal
