Library Book and Textbook Policy

Library books and textbooks issued to students are the property of Del Webb Middle School. Books must be returned in good condition for use by other students. In order for there to be sufficient books for everyone, students must take responsibility for their library books and textbooks.

The following guidelines are established for library and textbook check-out:

  • Student ID badges are required to all library book and textbook checkouts.
  • It is recommended that you write the barcode number of each textbook in your planner for your own record keeping purposes.
  • Students may only check out two library books at a time.
  • Library books are checked out for a period of three weeks. Library books may be renewed two times.
  • Students are expected to return the same book that was issued to them at the beginning of the year. Sometimes a student will turn in a book which was not the book they checked out at the beginning of the year. The barcode number must match the one on the student’s library record to clear their account at the end of the year.
  • Books are to be used by the student to whom the books are issued. DO NOT loan your books to friends. If they lose or damage the book, YOU will be charged for the loss or damages.
  • Please do not tear off or damage the barcodes. There is a $3.00 charge for replacement barcodes.
  • DO NOT leave your textbook in a classroom. If the book gets misplaced or damaged, you are responsible.
  • Check your library books and textbooks thoroughly for damages at the time of check-out. Note and report any damages to the teacher or librarian to prevent you being held responsible for previous damages.
  • Each student is responsible for any and all damages done to his/her assigned library books and textbooks. Damages include torn pages, broken bindings, torn/missing barcodes, graffiti, torn covers or book jackets, pages soiled by food, liquid or other organic matter, etc. Fines range from $3 to the full price for any book which cannot be recirculated or reissued. To avoid a fine, please report any previous damage you note to the teacher or the librarian immediately.
  •  It is expected that all library books and textbooks must be returned or fines reconciled prior to the start of the new school. Textbooks are especially costly to replace, so it is very important that students take good care of these resources.

What if I move to another school or district and still owe for library books or textbooks?
When a student who owes for a library book or textbook transfers to another school or district, the fine becomes a part of the student’s transfer record. The fine will remain on a student’s record throughout high school at which time fines for damaged, unreturned, or lost books must be paid before transcripts are sent, before schedules are provided, and before caps and gowns are issued for graduation.
