Social Studies 7 & 8
The Del Webb Middle School Social Studies program offers courses for 7th and 8th grade students that are based on the Nevada Department of Education Social Studies Standards. These courses provide students with an understanding of the development and dynamics of the Americas and the Eastern Hemisphere, respectively. Using technology and a variety of source materials, students explore geographical, historical, political, economic, and cultural contexts, and investigate current and historical world issues and events. In these courses, students use critical analysis to construct compelling questions and organized arguments, and engage in discussions that examine multiple viewpoints in history and society. The Social Studies curriculum encourages students to become informed, responsible citizens in an interconnected global world.

The 7th Social Studies course explores the development of the Western Hemisphere, focusing on the Americas. Both the standard and accelerated classes use technology to explore world issues within geographical, historical, political, economic, and cultural contexts. Students develop and research questions using various primary sources, and learn to construct arguments for different audiences that are supported by researched evidence and reasoning. In-class academic discussions encourage students to consider multiple viewpoints and evaluate claims and evidence. Both the standard and accelerated classes fulfill the 7th grade Social Studies requirement and prepare students for future civic engagement and learning in the area of social studies.

Both the standard and accelerated classes provide instruction relating to world issues within geographical, historical, political, economic, and cultural contexts. The class incorporates technology for exploration, and students research questions using various sources, and construct arguments supported by evidence and reasoning. In-class discussions encourage students to consider multiple viewpoints and evaluate claims. Both the standard and accelerated classes fulfill the 8th grade social studies requirement and prepare students for high school-level learning in the area of social studies.
